At Volvo of the Triad, we love Irv Gordon. He, and his 1966 Volvo P1800 might be the best example of the quality, longevity, and quality of vehicles found in our showroom. That's because he holds the record for most miles driven by a human, and the car is the record holder for most miles ever put on a vehicle, and recently it just bested itself one more time.
This particular Volvo hit the 3 million mile mark as Gordon was traveling on the scenic Seward Highway in Alaska. It's really just such an amazing story, and we're hoping the vehicle can keep chugging alone and continue to astound everyone.
For those of you unfamiliar with the story, Gordon bought the vehicle from a dealership, and loved it so much, he drove it 1,500 miles in a single weekend, and had to bring it back for service that Monday. He drove the P1800 on a 125-mile round-trip commute his entire working life, and put half a million miles on it in 10 years. In 1987, he hit the one million mile mark, the second million came in 2002, and with each mile that passes, it just keeps breaking its own record.
Speaking of the P1800, the Volvo Coupe Concept took many design cues from the classic vehicle, and it would be a welcome addition to our new Volvo lineup.
