With any new Volvo, you can be assured that it offers you a premium riding experience and is a vehicle that's built to last. Much of that comes from the automaker's platform, which is called Volvo Scalable Product Architecture. It sets the tone for all the vehicles we have here, and allows Volvo to add and improve on its vehicles each year. The next generation of that is coming soon, and with a vehicle like the Volvo XC90, adding a key new feature.
This new feature is Level 4 of Highway Pilot, which will allow you to let the XC90 drive itself without having to be ready to take over. Previous generations with this technology equipped mean you'd have to keep your hands around the steering wheel and be ready to brake if the vehicle required it. It's cloud-based and can continue to drive even if disconnected and there is the ability to possibly even sleep as the XC90 drives along limited roads, according to Volvo.
All of the work right now is being done in Sweden, the automaker's home as they're testing it. We cannot say for sure whether the full feature will come to the likes of the XC90 models coming our way soon, but it bodes well for the future. Regardless, new Volvo XC90 options with the second generation of Scalable Product Architecture will be built right here in the United States as there's a facility nearby in Ridgeville, SC.
